Today we started a really exciting pilot project: Stepping Stones!

In collaboration with The Civic, we will be working with 4 schools across South Dublin to introduce the craft of theatre making.

This pilot project is an exciting opportunity to encourage school communities to connect with and further engage with the arts.

Students will work together to write, devise, direct, design and perform original pieces of work which they will share on the main stage of The Civic in November!

Stepping Stones is supported through The Civic’s ongoing education program.

Freshly Ground Theatre is beyond thrilled to announce that we will partner on one of six diverse projects awarded funding for Shared Island Creative Youth Partnerships, on a project led by @tallaghtcommunityarts. The application was led by Creative Producer Jennifer Webster and Freshly Ground Theatre.

Taoiseach, Simon Harris TD, and Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin TD, announced the awarding of funding to 6 successful Creative Youth on a Shared Island projects as part of the Shared Island dimension to the Creative Ireland Programme 2023-2027.

The successful projects were created as a result of direct consultation with children and young people and include “To the Power of Three” which is led by Tallaght Community Arts. This creative exchange between young people in Derry, Dublin and Wexford utilizies performance to explore the importance of cultural connection, diversity, pride of place and what it means to be a young person on the island of Ireland today.

Alongside our public performances and school visits this week, we also presented 12 shows at Brookfield Community Centre for local schools and pre schools!

Although all of our shows are relaxed performances by nature, we had a number of gentle guided shows too ❤️

Sea legs is filled with lots of playful puppetry!

We have over 30 handmade puppets in the show including a stunning sequence of shadow puppetry brought to life by our lighting design and tech team: Conor Jacob, Arden Tierney and Ciara Meehan

As part of Sea Legs we received dramaturgy support and consultation in early years theatre making and inclusive theatre from artists Joanna Parkes, Seán Farrelly and Sarah Fitzgibbon.

After every meeting with these legends we felt so energised and inspired to push ourselves as artists and we are so grateful for that!

Sea Legs is an interactive and immersive theatre performance for young audiences and their families! Our underwater experience takes place in a custom made sensory tent! To create this tent we collaborated with a team of amazing artists!

Jack Rogers was our set designer who worked with maker Gary O Conor to build this beautiful performance and play space! The team received consultation on sustainable design and inclusive spaces from Natasha Duffy at Sofft Productions!
